Agri-tech uses stainless steel M8 for farm sensors
A Guangxi agricultural technology company provides environmental monitoring systems for large-scale livestock farms, measuring temperature, humidity, ammonia concentration, and CO2 levels. Barn environments are humid with corrosive ammonia gas — ordinary connectors corrode within months. Stainless steel terminal blocks offered adequate corrosion resistance but were labor-intensive to install.
We recommended M8 3-pin connectors in 316 stainless steel. The stainless housing resists ammonia corrosion effectively, and IP68 protection handles the high-humidity barn environment. Pre-terminated cables mean field installation only requires plugging sensors into controllers — one person can install 50+ monitoring points in a single day.
A trial installation of 100 monitoring points on a 10,000-head pig farm showed zero corrosion on all connectors after 6 months. The solution has since been adopted at 3 more farms. The customer notes that while stainless M8 connectors cost more upfront, reduced replacement frequency makes them more economical overall.
