Pipe cutting machine uses M12 A-code 8-pin for encoder
A Dongguan tube processing equipment manufacturer makes CNC pipe cutting and bending machines. Their servo motors require reliable encoder signal transmission to the controller. Originally DB9 serial connectors were used — the small pins bent easily during shipping and installation, causing encoder signal loss that took significant time to troubleshoot.
We recommended M12 A-coded 8-pin connectors as the replacement. 8 pins are sufficient for A+/A-/B+/B-/Z+/Z- encoder signals plus power. The M12 pins are thicker and more robust — far less likely to bend. Threaded locking prevents shipping vibration from loosening connections. IP67 protection also suits the dusty cutting workshop environment.
After the switch, encoder signal issues at customer sites virtually disappeared. Troubleshooting teams reported that encoder problems had been one of their most time-consuming issues — now eliminated entirely. All new machine models ship with M12 interfaces.
