M8 connectors for robot vacuum cup sensors
A Dongguan automation integrator builds robotic pick-and-place systems with vacuum grippers. Each gripper includes a vacuum pressure sensor to verify workpiece pickup. Originally, sensor wires ran directly to the robot control cabinet — constant flexing during robot motion caused wire breakage at joint points every 2-3 months.
We recommended M8 3-pin molded cables with high-flex PUR jackets, offering 5x the flex life of standard PVC. The snap-lock connector design prevents loosening during high-speed robot motion. Custom cable lengths matched actual routing paths, eliminating excess slack.
After switching, downtime from cable failures dropped by 90%. While the cables cost more per unit, the savings from reduced downtime and replacement labor made it well worth it. All new projects now use this approach by default.
