Underwater robot customizes M16 pressure connectors
A Zhuhai underwater robotics company manufactures ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles) for underwater inspection and intervention. Their thrusters operate at depths of hundreds of meters, requiring connectors with extreme watertight integrity and pressure resistance. The custom watertight connectors they originally used cost hundreds of RMB each with long lead times — a procurement bottleneck.
We recommended M16 3-pin and 5-pin pressure-rated connectors. The threaded lock with O-ring sealing passed pressure testing at 100 meters depth (10 bar). The housing uses marine-grade 316 stainless steel for saltwater corrosion resistance. Being a standard IEC size, procurement is flexible with multiple sourcing options.
After passing trials on small ROV thrusters, the customer confirmed watertight performance equal to the custom parts at one-third the cost. The solution has been adopted across multiple product lines. While volumes are modest, the margins are favorable.
